Arrival / How to find us

Here you will find consolidated information on how to arrive at the conference venue.

The Conference this year takes place on-site, at the Lithuanian Energy Institute, which is located in Lithuania’s city of Kaunas, Breslaujos st. 3, LT-44403.

Arrival to Kaunas

Kaunas is the second-largest city in Lithuania, situated in the centre of the country. Here are the most convenient ways of traveling to Kaunas.

✈️ By Plane

1) Via Vilnius International Airport (VNO)

Vilnius International Airport is the largest commercial airport in Lithuania. The airport is located on a plateau in the south of Vilnius. It is only 7 km or 15 minutes drive by car from the centre of the capital.

To reach Lithuanian Energy Institute you will need to either drive to Kaunas city or take a train or a bus from Vilnius Railway or Bus stations, both are in close proximity of each other. In order to connect from Vilnius Airport to both stations, take the bus routes #1, #2 (direction AirportViking st.Station). Use this LTG Link website for train schedules and tickets or check the bus connections and tickets online here for Kaunas destination.

Please consult this Vilnius Public Transport Guide to Arrivals made available at the Airport website. The guide covers information on routes and bus numbers that will take you to the Vilnius city centre or the main Bus and Railway stations, also on ticketing options, apps, pricing and route planning.

2) Via Kaunas International Airport (KUN)

Wizz Air, Ryanair as well as some charter flight companies, fly to and from Kaunas international airport. It is located 14 km northeast of the Kaunas city centre. The city bus #29G (its timetable is adjusted to the arrivals schedule) will help you reach the city centre from there for a price of 1 Eur. We recommend to get off the bus at “Gelezinkelio Stotis” (Kaunas Railway Station)  bus stop (#29G route terminates there), from there LEI is only a few bus stops away, see below for further instructions.

🚆 By Train

Major cities in Lithuania, as well as Bialystok and Suwalki in Poland, are connected to Kaunas by rail.  If you plan arriving from Vilnius by train, board a train to Kaunas, the inter-city trains are frequent and the journey will take an hour with no risk of getting stuck in a traffic jam. Check train schedules and tickets | LTG Link to Kaunas Railway Station (“Kauno geležinkelio stotis” in Lithuanian). Check below for further instructions on how to get to LEI from Kaunas Railway Station.

🚌 By Bus

The Kaunas Bus Station is open 24/7 and offers plenty of activities for those waiting for intercity (check the Lithuanian connections and purchase tickets online here) and international buses.  The bus station is not far from the city centre and a few bus stops away from LEI. See instructions below on how to get to LEI from Kaunas Bus Station.

🚗 By Car

Traveling to Kaunas by car is hassle-free from Riga, Warsaw, Vilnius, Klaipėda and pretty much the rest of the cities in the surrounding region. You have to pay for parking in the central part of Kaunas 8 am – 6 pm from Monday to Friday (no charge on weekends – except the Town Hall Square, where the hours are 8 am-midnight), except public holidays. To pay for parking, you can use the Unipark App, your contactless bank card or Euro coins. More on parking in Kaunas here.

Getting around Kaunas

Public transport

Kaunas is a very walkable city; we suggest you pack your most comfortable shoes. To reach objects in the outskirts of the city (or if it rains, or if you happen to love buses and trolleybuses!), we suggest you use the busy network of public transport. Download the Trafi app for real-time traffic and timetables, Google Maps App also covers Public Transport in Kaunas well and use Žiogas app for purchasing (cheaper) tickets, tickets can also be purchased from the Trolley/Bus driver for 1 EUR. The former is super-fast and convenient! There’s also a public transport network website called stops.lt that quite possibly speaks your language, too.

Taxi and car sharing

Uber does not operate in Kaunas as of April 2019, but there’s a similar service called Bolt (previously Taxify). Here’s a discount code for first-time users – KAUNASIN. Enter it when registering the app and save 7 Eur! We also recommend the eTaksi app that connects most traditional taxi companies in the city. eTransport is a Vilnius-based company that recently started operating in Kaunas. You can also ask your hotel staff to call you a cab by phone.

CityBee car-sharing app offers plenty of new (or new-ish) cars that you can pick up and drop off in dozens of places around the city. You can also get an electric vehicle from Spark in Vilnius and park/charge it in Kaunas.

Scooters

Bolt launched the scooter-sharing service in the central part of Kaunas in August 2019. Fun times! Simply download the app or use the same one you use for calling a cab or ordering food.

By car

You have to pay for parking in the central part of Kaunas 8 am – 8 pm from Monday to Friday (yes, the weekends are free – except the Town Hall Square!), except for public holidays. To pay for parking, you can use the Unipark app, your contactless bank card or Euro coins.
